Beginnings:
Germinal Stage: The prenatal stage that lasts from conception to 2 weeks conception (Levine and Munsch)
Embryonic Stage: The prenatal stage that lasts from 2 weeks to 2 months post conception (Levine and Munsch)
Fetal Stage: The prenatal stage that lasts from 2 months post conception until birth (Levine and Munsch)
Teratogens: Agents that can disrupt prenatal development and cause malformations or termination of the pregnancy (Levine and Munsch)
Different Types of Teratogens:
Stress: Stress can do a lot to the mind of an expecting mother. To much can cause a lot of physical harm to the baby as well as the mother therefore it's important to keep a low stress level if you are expecting.
Substance Abuse: Substance abuse during pregnancy is what leads us to terms like crack babies or even kids that are addicted to alcohol because their mother was drinking pregnancy. Women that abuse drugs such as alcohol, heroin, cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamines, or any other drug cause problems for their baby. Obviously I can't stress enough the importance of not doing a drug of any kind while pregnant.

Medication: Medication is extremely important during pregnancy. If medication is not taken it the proper doses it can cause serious problems to the mother and the child. Also, an expecting mother is constantly taking medicine so it's extremely important that she is taking the right medication that is prescribed to her
